Mentoring Scheme

To support you through your first six months of employment a personal mentoring service will be available to you. Many of our graduates have found this service extremely helpful as a way to familiarise themselves with their new working environment. Your mentor will have extensive work experience in your area of employment and will be on hand to discuss informally and confidentially to discuss any work related issues, training, concerns and your general progression in your new career.

Your mentor can help with some of the following issues that can arise as you embark on your career.
• How do I make myself noticed?
• How do I get the experience that will enhance my career prospects?
• How do I gain sufficient understanding of what happens at more senior levels?
• How do I learn to manage business politics?
• How do I get myself assigned to the “right” projects?
• How do I create the influence and information networks that will enable me to operate effectively at a senior level?
• How do I develop the depth of self-awareness necessary to operate at that new level?

Meet the mentors

Colin MacInnes is a very energetic mentor who has worked in various business sectors and has developed his knowledge and skill through hands on practical experience and training. (experience is training and training develops experience) He listens and establishes facts before forming an opinion or giving advice. The relationship which he builds with graduates is one of partnership jointly working towards a solution which is of benefit to the graduate in helping them to become more effective in their careers and satisfied that they are choosing the correct path in their personal development

Within the first month of your employment you can meet up with your mentor, and three and six-month meetings can be arranged there after. The meetings often last around one hour and can be at your office or an external location.

If you are intersted in becoming a mentor, we would be delighted to hear from you. Please call 0131 226 3775 for further information.
